DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Design is a practiced art, but the end result of the design process is not art. Art is a form of creative expression that is meant to elicit thought and individual interpretation. Art is inspiring, emotional, and significant, but it serves no purpose other than to express humanity's desire to express itself. Design, on the other hand, is a creative process aimed at solving a problem or meeting a need for the people who will eventually interact with it. Design should not be left up to interpretation, but should instead explain how it is to be engaged with and guide a user through each level of that interaction. Art raises questions, and design provides solutions.
Design is the process of developing solutions to user problems. The tricky part is that we frequently design for humans, and humans are complicated. With time, people's expectations and wants change. Sometimes design evolves to meet these changes, sometimes design is the driver of the change. Nonetheless, a designer’s job is never done. This is not to say that design must be fashionable; design may be timeless; yet, a great designer is prone to repetition and constantly has their ear to the ground.
